Fertile groundfor ideas.

Our process is rooted in collaboration. This means bringing different perspectives together to challenge and build on one another–yours included.

Overview

The value of working side by side

We invite our clients into the process early—not to observe, but to help shape the work. This open, co-creative approach doesn’t just foster ownership; it uncovers insights that might otherwise remain hidden, helping the team arrive at solutions that inspire wonder.

Inception

Inception is where we ensure everyone is aligned on what success looks like.

To get there, we evaluate the project through the lens of social, environmental, and economic performance, establishing measurable goals that guide the work ahead. We also identify the right TBG team members, share potential strategic partners, and begin to set the schedule and budget.

Discovery

Discovery is when we clarify our vision for the project.

This includes a deep dive into the site and surrounding community to set goals for social, economic, and environmental performance. We also validate our client’s expectations by examining the project’s context, site conditions, governmental regulations, ecology, brand identity, end user experience, and other key benchmarks.

Development

Development is the core of our process—when ideas begin to come to life.

This may include stakeholder workshops, establishing project character, programming studies, functional diagrams, and concept sketches to build early consensus. We then move into Schematic Design with further refinement, typically including a final site plan, illustrative sections and perspectives, and preliminary approaches for planting and materials. Entitlement documents and phasing plans may also be developed. Next, the design team will move into Design Development, where final design decisions are translated into technical drawings for construction.

Delivery

The Delivery phase is the culmination of layers of analysis, ideas, refinement, and decisions.

For landscape architecture projects, this includes issuing final construction documents, bid tabulation, and construction observation. For planning engagements, it typically concludes with a final master plan.

Evaluation

After a project is built and in use, Post Occupancy Evaluations allow us to measure its success.

We conduct site visits to observe how people interact with the design and gather feedback on their experience. This reveals whether we delivered on the project’s purpose and uncovers any operational or maintenance issues. These insights evolve our practice and help clients succeed with future projects as they arise.
